Formation of Women harmony club at Nellikkandam

Neethi Vedhi, in collaboration with Sulthan Bathery Municipality organized International Indigenous Day celebrations on 7th and 8th August 2026 at Bathery Municipal Town hall. The first day was mainly devoted for a seminar with leaders from Adivasi communities and organizations working for their empowerment. Around 150 persons participated in the deliberations on the topic: "The Adivasis in Wayanad -Crisis, Problems and Solutions". Mr. Indrajith M G, deputy chairperson of Bathery Municipality, presided over the inaugural session. Mrs. Razeena Abdulkhadar, the Municipal chairperson, officially inaugurated the seminar. Dr. Narayanan from ITCR Chethalayam and Mr. Mohandas K. K, TDO were the resource persons. Mr. M. K Ramdas moderated the discussions. The major suggestions are being documented to be submitted before concerned authorities.
On 8th August, around 700 people, mostly members from different Adivasi communities gathered in the town hall to celebrate the day with colourful programs. Ms. Flaisy Jose, Neethi Vedhi Director, initiated the program with a Power Point presentation on the life situation of Adivasi communities in Wayanad. It was followed by the documentary 'Knathika', depicting the cultural fabric of Paniya tribe.
The official inaugural session was presided over by Mrs. Razeena Abdulkhadar, Chairperson of Bathery Municipality. Adv. Fr. Stephen Mathew, President of Neethi Vedhi, welcomed the guests and participants. Dr. Thomas Joseph Therakam made the introductory speech, explaining the history, relevance and the role of Indigenous day celebrations. Mrs. Usha Vijayan, Mananthavady MLA, inaugurated the colorful event, lighting the specially decorated lamps along with tribal elderly women. She also honoured the traditional Midwives from Adivasi communities. Mrs. Prasanna Saseendran, Bathery block Panchayat president, Mr. Sunil Kumar, District Panchayat member, Mr. M S Vishwanathan, Municipal counselor, and Mrs. Shifanath, standing committee chairperson, felicitated the participants. Mr. Biju Kakkathode, general convenor, proposed vote of thanks.
The afternoon witnessed various indigenous cultural presentations by students, youth and women from different Adivasi communities.
